At Owatrol we are proud to say that our products are used to maintain the timber on the Royal Yacht Britannia. Deks Olje D1 is used each year to maintain the teak decks – it’s perfect for this as it’s water repellent and suitable for use both above and below the waterline. D1 replaces the natural oils from the wood and can be applied without sanding or stripping. It is transparent, enhancing the natural grain of the wood and gives a matt finish to soft and hard woods.
The key products being used for the yacht are Deks Olje D1 & D2 along with Net-trol Wood Cleaner & Colour Restorer. D1 is used heavily in marine applications as it is suitable both above and below the waterline due to its excellent, inherent water repellent qualities.
On the railings shown above, Deks Olje D1 is used, followed by Deks Olje D2 which provides a high-gloss finish to teak and all boating woods. As it’s an oil rather than a varnish it can expand and contract with the wood without splitting, maintaining that flawless finish needed on such an iconic boat.
When using Deks Olje D2, ensure that the surface is above the waterline and has been treated first with Deks Olje D1 or Owatrol Oil. The result will be a highly transparent look which enhances the natural beauty of the wood, offers long-term protection which can be easily patch repaired with no stripping.
The maintenance of the decking and railings is a simple an annual ‘patch repair’ process so again adding to the inherent benefits of the products.
