  • Cleans all types of weathered exterior wood
  • Economical and easy to use
  • For exterior use only

Prepdeck stripper/cleaner is a professional, high-grade product specially designed for the removing of old solid and semi-transparent stains, unsightly grade stamps and other finishes from wood.

It is essentially a three-in-one product. Its main purpose when undiluted, is as an effective way to prepare a wooden surface for further treatment. Prepdeck strips away existing finishes along with stains, marks, and grade stamps.

When diluted, Prepdeck can also reduce mill glaze on new wood and prepare the surface to accept a penetrative finish.

The product can also be diluted for use as a powerful wood cleaner with the ability to get rid of even difficult marks and stains.

Ideal uses for Prepdeck

  • Prepdeck Stripper/Cleaner may be used on soft or hardwoods and thermo (burnt) wood.
  • It is ideal for garden decks, fences, cladding, log homes and garden furniture.
  • Perfect for the removal of stains, finishes and wood grade stamps.
  • Great for getting rid of mill glaze easily, thus allowing the wood to get the best finish possible.

Recommendations for use

Please note – when using Prepdeck you must neutralise the surface immediately with Net-trol. This prevents a reaction with the new coating to be applied.

Hi I’m looking at this product to get years of paint and oils off my decking do u having to pressure wash it off as I wouldn’t be able to do that where the decking is situated ?

      Hi there Kate,

Ideally you would have a pressure washer but a garden hose will also suffice. Prepdeck requires the use of water to remove it from the wood: https://www.owatroldirect.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/ften_prepdeck__054383200_1148_18092014.pdf

Once Prepdeck is ready to be removed, you would need to scrub surface with a stiff nylon brush, flushing with copious amounts of water at the same time or by using a pressure washer at 725-1500 psi (50-103 bars) depending on the type of wood.

Once removed, rinse thoroughly with lots of fresh clean water, using the highest pressure from the water source available or via the use a pressure washer at 500-1000 psi (35-70 bars).

After the wood has been thoroughly rinsed, you must immediately neutralise the surface with Net-Trol – this is to stop the active ingredient in Prepdeck from continuing to work.

I hope this was helpful, please feel free to call us on: 01582 592707 or email us at: sales@owatroluk.com for further assistance.

      All the best,
      The Owatrol Team

I have a three year old very large deck up in Aberdeenshire, and stupidly applied a very expensive decking oil (it had good reviews). However, the low average temperatures up here and the frequent rain made it almost impossible to apply in accordance with the instructions, it lasted a year before peeling in parts and wearing away in areas of moderate foot traffic. I tried again the following year with even less success. This year I came to my senses and decided to go for something like creosote that soaks into the wood and doesn’t form a skin that will peel or flake. But, I couldn’t find a decking stripper that actually worked until I discovered Prepdeck (I’ve tried the others available in the UK – all a waste of time and money!) Prepdeck is simple to use and very very effective. After some experimenting I found the I removed almost 100% of the previous oil layers in one pass by lightly wetting the Prepdeck after it has been sitting about 15 minutes, and waiting for another 15 before using the pressure washer. Excellent product. Don’t waste your money on the other rubbish.

I was not looking forward to this job. 25 square metres of softwood deck with 3 years of Ronseal Ultimate Decking oil on it, which had peeled in places as it’s not oil and sits on the surface. Got to work using Prepdeck and followed the instructions for the touch time. Armed with a pressure washer and a deck brush, the whole deck was done in 5.5 hrs. I was totally impressed with Prepdeck – stripping the coatings back was a simple brush up the plank after about 15 minutes followed by rinsing it all off with the pressure washer. The recommendation to work in small areas pays off – I was doing 2-3 square metres at a time and quickly got into a good routine. I followed this up with Netrol to neutralise. I now have what looks like how my deck looked when it was installed. It actually looks like it’s just been fitted. I intend to sand, then follow up with Textrol next weekend (weather permitting). All I can say is a massive thank-you from me. You get what you pay for – don’t waste your time elsewhere and buy the product that will actually do the job.

I can definitely recommend this product for removing 5 or 6 years worth of Ronseal decking oil which had hardened and darkened the decking. I applied with a brush, scrubbed a little and the pressure washed off. It removed just about all the old decking oil. Application of the Netrol then brightened the wood to leave the decking in virtually new condition. I would recommend buying the sample first to check it will remove the coating you have on your own decking as it is expensive. I tried a sample of Aquanett also, which was effective but the Prepdeck was better.

I used this after 4 to 5 years of just cleaning. Decided to use it neat to get rid of previous coatings. Worked a treat just follow the instructions, followed with netrol and decking is like new, no sanding required even on the worst areas.

I was not looking forward to this job, with hazardous chemicals and warnings! My deck had been left mottled with a very expensive, but useless high street decking paint and bare bits!
My deck is quite large and granted it was a long job, but it was nowhere near as awful as I anticipated. Followed up with the Net-trol I am sitting back and looking at an excellent job.
I can still see darker areas, but I didn’t expect it to look like new wood.
I am not wrestling with the next decision. Opaque Decking Paint? or Solid Colour Stain?, and in what colour?. I thought the decking had had its day.
    Thanks Owatrol

I really cannot rate this product highly enough. I had 5 years of oils, dirt and a sub surface black fungus growth. This product took everything out on the first attempt. Had to use it neat and keep it moist for 15 mins but what a job it did. U get what u pay for. And all on a hardwood balau deck.
