Over time, the gelcoat on your boat can become dull and faded due to sunlight rain and pollution. Luckily we have just the product to restore your gelcoat back to its former glory.
Owtrol’s Gelcoat Restorer (Marine Polytrol) is an oil that deeply penetrates the surface, re-wetting the pigments and restoring them back to their original state.
It’s quick and easy to use and due to its thick consistency, it can be used on both horizontal and vertical surfaces. Gelcoat Restorer dries to a tough and long-lasting flexible finish which does not leave a film – so it won’t peel or flake.
Gelcoat & Surface Restorer can also be used to remove traces of rust from stainless steel.
Applying the Gelcoat Restorer
All surfaces must be clean, dry and free of dirt, grease, grime and mildew. Any previous waxes, polishes, silicone etc. need to be completely and thoroughly removed – this is because Gelcoat Restorer works by penetrating deep into the surface, so if there is already a coating on the surface, then the Gelocat Restorer will not be able to penetrate it and the process will not work.
If there is any mildew on the surface, treat with a 50:50 bleach and water solution – scrub the solution on to the surface and allow it to stand for 10-15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
Clean the surface with warm soapy water or Deck Cleaner, rinse thoroughly and allow it to dry for a minimum of 24 hours depending on surface.
Once your surface is clean and ready for application, we recommend you work in areas that can be completed 10-20 minutes – to ensure an even appearance.
Saturate a soft cloth with Gelcoat Restorer and wipe it on. Then, with a soft cloth, wipe off any excess within 10 minutes.
Next gently polish with a lint-free cloth to a new sheen.
If the surface absorbs the Gelcoat Restorer unevenly (i.e. there are some matt and some shiny patches) move any surplus oil from shiny areas to matt areas.
Wipe off any excess Gelcoat Restorer with a lint free cloth before it becomes tacky – for a shinier finish, buff the surface with a lint-free polishing cloth.
Take a look at our demonstration video below to see before and after images and to see just how easy it is to apply.
