Learn how R&A Pressure Washing Services restored this Royal Botania teak bench with a stainless steel frame using products from Owatrol.
The prep work
As you can see from the before images, the teak had become grey and weathered due to a build-up of dirt and grime on top of a previously applied finish. To restore it, Roger needed to remove the old coating, brighten the wood, and then apply a new finish.
Step 1. Stripping the Bench with Prepdeck
Prepdeck is our 3-in-1 stripper, cleaner and millglaze remover. When used as a wood stripper, it should be applied to the surface undiluted. Prepdeck is a water-based and biodegradable product, making it safe to use in and around the garden.
To make the removal process as easy as possible, we recommend using a power washer at 500-1000 psi (35-70 bars). Alternatively, you can use the highest pressure available from your water source.
Once the previous coating was removed, the wood was neutralised, cleaned and brightened.
Step 2. Neutralising and Cleaning the Wood with Net-Trol
Net-Trol is our fast-acting neutraliser, cleaner and wood brightener. It must be applied after using a stripping product, such as Prepedeck, to neutralises the wood and prepare it for your chosen finish once dry.
Net-Trol is ready to apply straight from the bottle, works in as little as 15 minutes, and is also water-based and biodegradable – making it another product that is perfect for use in and around the garden.
Once the wood was dry, Roger gave it a light sanding to remove any raised grain.
Step 3. Applying the Finish, Aquadecks
Finally, Roger applied our water-based wood finish Aquadecks, in the shade Honey. Aquadecks is one of our many products that are applied ‘wet-on-wet’. This method can save you hours: after the first coat, wait just 15–20 minutes before applying the second coat. That’s it – you’re done!
In some cases, the wood may be so dry that a further application is required. Aquadecks is a highly saturating product and as such, its place is inside of the wood – not on the surface. Do not allow it to become touch dry/dry between coats and do not let a film form on the surface.
