This red balau deck and cedar fencing were given a complete makeover by none other than Owatrol veteran Roger, of R&A Pressure Washing Services Ltd.
Regular readers of our blog, or browsers of our social pages, may have seen some of the amazing work carried out by Roger before. So, it will likely be no surprise that we have another amazing project of his to share with you.
We think you will agree that yet again, the results are stunning!
So, how did Roger achieve this result?
For the red balau deck
The prep work
Firstly, Roger began by giving the deck a deep clean with a diluted solution of our 3-in-1 stripper, cleaner and millglaze remover, Prepdeck.
To use Prepdeck as a cleaning solution, we recommend you dilute 1 part Prepdeck to 5 parts water. You can do this up to a maximum of 1 part Prepdeck to 20 parts water (depending on the condition of the surface).
Tip: to ease the removal of Prepdeck, use the highest pressure from the available water source. Alternatively, use a power washer at 500-1000 psi (35-70 bars).
Once it was clean, Roger then applied our neutraliser and wood brightener Net-Trol, to bring the wood back to its original colour. Net-Trol is biodegradable and as such, does not contain any solvents or bleach. This makes it harmless to plants and shrubs so it’s safe to use in the garden.
The finish
Finally, once dry, he gave it a light sand to remove the raised grain and applied our highly saturating wood oil, D1 Pro. D1 Pro, with added UV inhibitors, is a high-performance wood oil which replaces oils that have been lost due to weathering, pollution and UV rays. It enhances the natural beauty of the wood, whilst also being easy to use and maintain, requiring no sanding or stripping.
The before and after pictures really do speak for themselves!
For the cedar fencing
The prep work
As there was no previous finish applied to the fencing, Roger did not need to use Prepdeck. Instead, he only required Net-Trol to clean and brighten it, ready for a finish. As you can see, it effortlessly removed dirt and that aged grey appearance, leaving the wood looking bright and vibrant.
Once the wood had dried, he gave it a light sand to remove the raised grain.
The finish
Finally, Roger then applied 2 coats of our water-based wood finish Aquadecks, in the shade Honey. Aquadecks is one of our products that is applied ‘wet-on-wet’. This means that once you have applied the first coat, simply wait 15-20mins before applying the second. This can save you hours of time!
Tip: Aquadecks place is inside the wood, not on the surface. Do not allow it to become touch dry/dry between coats and do not create a film on the surface.
Huge thank you to Roger for once again trusting Owatrol on another project. Do follow his Facebook page for more amazing transformations.
