This Western red cedar cladding & fencing was restored after an application of Osmo oil had failed. This is another project completed by Owatrol wizard Roger of R&A Pressure Washing Services.
This one took him over 10 days to complete due to not only the size of the project, but also due to dodging the rain.
So, just how did Roger achieve this stunning result?
Preparing the wood
As you can see in the before images, the wood was very splotchy and looked quite dirty due to the previously applied failed finish. To remove this, Roger first applied Prepdeck and then neutralised and brightened the wood with Net-Trol, in preparation for a new finish.
Step 1: Prepdeck
Prepdeck is our 3-in-1 stripper, cleaner and millglaze remover. When used in the removal of a finish, it should be applied undiluted. When used as a cleaner, we recommend diluting 1 part Prepdeck to 5 parts water. Prepdeck is water-based and biodegradable, making it safe to use in your garden around plants and shrubs.
We recommend using a power washer at 500-1000 psi (35-70 bars) to assist with the removal process. If a power washer is unavailable to you, we recommend using the highest pressure from the water source that is available.
Step 2: Net-Trol
Once the previous finish was removed, Roger then applied Net-Trol, our neutraliser and wood brightener, to neutralise the wood, as well as brighten it back to its original colour. Net-Trol is ready to apply straight from the bottle and you can have amazing results in as little as 15 minutes.
It’s also water-based and biodegradable and as such, makes it another product that is perfect for use in and around the garden.
Roger then gave the wood a light sand to remove any raised grain.
The finish
Once dry (and between the rain!), the wood was ready to have its protective finish applied.
Step 3: Aquadecks
Roger applied our water-based wood finish Aquadecks, in the shade Honey, in the usual ‘wet-on-wet’ manner. This way of application can save you so many hours of time! Once you have applied the first coat, simply wait 15-20mins before applying the second and you’re done! In some cases, the wood may be so dry that a further application is required.
Please remember that Aquadecks is a saturating product. As such, its place is inside of the wood – not on the surface. Do not allow it to become touch dry/dry between coats and do not let a film form on the surface.
