Polytrol used to revive black composite door

Owatrol Polytrol used to revive black composite front door

We have recently received a lovely case study from a customer that used Polytrol to revive their black composite front door.

As you can see, Lisa’s door had become dull from pollution, rain and UV rays. She wanted to bring it back to its original shine and also try to mask some of the scratches.

We recommended that she use our colour restorer, Polytrol.

What is Polytrol?

Owatrol Polytrol is a colour restorer of dull or tarnished surfaces. It can be used on a wide variety of surfaces including; Plastics, gelcoats, GRP (fibreglass), tiles, painted or varnished surfaces, stone, bricks, metals and more!

Polytrol penetrates the surface, re-wetting the pigments to restore their lustre and colour which has been lost through exposure to sunlight, rain and pollution. It also gives corrosion protection.

When used on tarnished metals, it brings back the shine and gives long-term protection against corrosion.

Polytrol is simple to apply using a cloth or soft brush and is ready to wipe off in just 10 minutes!

Here’s what Lisa had to say about her experience with Polytrol;

I just wanted to say what a fantastic product the polytrol colour restorer is. I used it today on my black composite front door and was very impressed with the results. The polytrol not only restored it to its original gloss black it also got rid of most of the scratch marks on it. I was so pleased I wanted to let you know what a great product it is and show you the results.

Polytrol is available in a two size pots; 1 litre and 0.5 litre as well as a 250ml spray can. We also offer a 100ml sample pot which can be purchased for £5.

    1. Hi William,

Polytrol will work perfectly at reviving your faded front door. As with almost all of our products, we recommend testing it out in a small area first.

  2. Hi ,I have a pale green door that has faded in one area, do I use this product over the whole door or just the faded area, many thanks Cheryl

  3. Hi there.
Coming back to you after a couple of years since i used Polytrol Colour restorer.
I would like to use this restorer again but my problem is that my door has a few patches, turning white.
I imagine the restorer will enhance more these parches, making them shine but not covering them?
Should I sand it off very gently before and use a primer? I really do not know how to solve this problem. I do not wish to change my door since there is nothing wrong with it apart from these patches where the color is nearly gone. Please advice.
Many thanks for your great help. Maria.

    1. Hi there Maria,

Sadly, in some cases Polytrol will not be able to restore pigments that are too far gone. You could try out a sample of Polytrol on one of these areas to see what Polytrol would do?
Buffing the surface after you have removed the excess is what causes the Polytrol to shine, so to avoid this you could just simply wipe it away instead.
