5 Uses for Polytrol

What is Polytrol?

Polytrol is a deep penetrating oil which restores the original colour and appearance of dull or tarnished plastics, gelcoats, metals and more!

It penetrates deep into the surface and re-wets the pigments to restore their lustre and *colour which has been lost through exposure to sunlight, rain and pollution. When used on tarnished metals, it brings back the shine and gives long-term protection against corrosion.

We are sure you will have something in need of revival, but if you need a little inspiration, take a look at these 5 uses for Polytrol;

1) Revival of a narrowboat’s gelcoat

One of our customers had a narrowboat that had a faded body work that was in need of a bit of revival. Being exposed to harsh weather, damaging UV rays and harmful pollution caused the gelcoat to become faded and dull, making it look much older than it was!

After a little internet search they found Owatrol Polytrol and after reading the fantastic reviews, decided to give it go. It did exactly what they wanted it to do and for a fraction of the price of repainting!

2) Restoring a faded wood effect composite door

Your front door is the first thing people will see when you have visitors and a faded door can make your house appear aged and weather beaten. We had a customer who wanted to bring back the bright shine their door once had and to be able to see the beautiful wood effect grain again.

As you can see, the customer certainly got what they wanted! It now looks shiny and new and the customer didn’t have to pay out for an expensive new door!

3) Bring back the black on a car bumper

We have had many customers over the years who want to bring back the black on their car bumpers and trims. Sadly, this is a very common problem as cars are obviously exposed to a lot of damaging UV rays, bad weather and pollution. Luckily, there is a quick and easy solution to this problem.

As you can see, the bumper looks as new as the day it was installed! This customer also sent us a picture 5 months later of the bumpers still looking like new!

Another customer had a very sad looking garage door that was missing the beautiful red lustre it once had.
They really didn’t want to have to buy a new door, especially as it worked perfectly!
They decided to give Polytrol a go to see what it could do for them and as you can see, the door looks bright and vibrant again with a beautiful shine.

The difference Polytrol has made is simply amazing. It looks as good as new!

    1. Hi there Michaela,

      Thank you for your query.

I’m afraid Polytrol is not suitable to be used on an enamel hob due to the fact that it will get very hot.

      I hope this was helpful.

      All the best,
      The Owatrol Team

  1. My brown rain down pipes have gone white on the side it is facing the sun ,will your product bring them back to life

    1. Hi there Peter,

So long as there is still some pigmentation left in your rain pipes, Polytrol should help bring the colour back. Sometimes, however, if the pigments have faded to such a degree that they have completely been lost from UV exposure, it is unlikely that the colour will be able to be restored.
We would recommend you purchase a sample pot and test it on a small area first to see if it would work for you. You can get a 100ml sample pot for £5 with free delivery here: https://www.owatroldirect.co.uk/product/polytrol/

  2. Hi Im looking to use Polytrol on my teak wood effect garage door which is fibre glass with wooden frame surround. Some of the coating is flaking on both the fibreglass & wooden frame. Is Polytrol suitable to use on flaking fibreglass wood effect garage door? Would you recommend any special preperation in this instance?

    1. Hi there Saqib,

Unfortunately, if the surface is peeling and or flaking, Polytrol will not be able to help in this instance. Application onto this type of surface may even result in a worse appearance.
You could try speaking with the manufacturer of the door and see what they recommend?

Apologies we could not be of any more help.

      All the best,
      The Owatrol Team

    1. Hi Paul,

Yes, Polytrol can safely be used on uPVC, however, we always recommend purchasing a sample pot and testing it on a small area first.

  4. Hello, I have rosewood upvc double glazing throughout my house. Despite its age it is in remarkably good condition except for the large main picture window sill and some beading at the front of the house. This window is exposed to a range of weather conditions including strong sunlight throughout the year and the sill and adjacent beading has weathered and is now badly faded (however the actual sill remains in tact and there is no signs of peeling or flaking). Will Polytrol help to restore the faded sill/beading?
    Regards,
    Michael

    1. Hello there Michael,

Polytrol should help to revive the colour on almost any faded surface, including upvc. So long as the surface is not white, you should notice a difference.
