We know that metal protection, in particular, is a minefield of different but similar products and it can be a challenge to work out which is best for your project. Hopefully, this guide will give you a better understanding of the Owatrol metal range and how to use our various solutions.
This is, however, meant as a guide only and you should refer to the product pages for specific information and full application instructions.

We hope this can help to answer any questions but if you are still unsure which Owatrol solution is right for you then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
having a old cast iron toilet cistern sand blasted and am looking for a clear coat to prevent corrosion from building up on inside but keep the look of the raw cast iron, I would be grateful for any info regarding my query.
Many thanks Doug.
Hi Douglas,
We would recommend using Owatrol Oil for your project, you can saturate the metal with it.
Many thanks,
The Owatrol Team
I want to paint my gutters. There’s 25 metres of very old, large (7 inch) cast iron, last painted with Hammerite nearly 20 years ago. The inside, in particular will no doubt be very rusty.
What would you recommend I use to treat and paint them? And how much will I need?
Thanks
Richard
Hi there Richard,
For removal of a product such as Hammerite you would need to use a product such as DSP 800: https://www.owatroldirect.co.uk/product/dsp-800-multi-purpose-stripper/
After this, you could then repaint them with a product such as Owatrol Deco: https://www.owatroldirect.co.uk/product/owatrol-deco/
I hope this was helpful.
All the best,
The Owatrol Team
I have aluminium patio furniture which has oxidised, can you recommend how I might restore it?
Kind regards
Liz Cox
Hi there Liz,
Could I ask you to send some pictures over to us of the effected furniture please? If you could send them to sales@owatroluk.com we will get back to you with our recommendation.
All the best,
