Application of Polytrol Colour Restorer
General directions
Always work in areas that can be completed 10-20 minutes to ensure an even appearance. If the surface absorbs the Polytrol unevenly (i.e. some matt and some shiny patches) move any surplus oil from shiny areas to matt areas. Always wipe away excess Polytrol with a lint-free cloth before it becomes tacky. For a shinier finish, buff the surface with a lint-free polishing cloth.
When using the Polytrol 250ml spray can, simply spray on liberally, wipe off the excess and leave to dry.
Applying Polytrol to plastic, gelcoat, tiles, painted surfaces etc.
Apply Polytrol liberally and evenly with a brush or cloth. Allow it to work for 10-20 minutes. Wipe off the excess with a clean lint-free cloth. Leave it to dry.
Applying Polytrol to stone, brick, etc.
Apply Polytrol liberally and evenly with a brush or cloth and leave it to work for 10-20 minutes. Brush out or wipe off the excess Polytrol with a clean lint-free cloth. Leave it to dry.
Applying Polytrol to metal
Apply Polytrol using a fine wire wool (000 grade) soaked in Polytrol and allow it to work for 10-20 minutes. Wipe off the excess Polytrol with a clean lint-free cloth. Leave to dry.
Note: Excess Polytrol must be wiped away. It is not a surface coating and as such, its place is in the surface, not on top.
Maintenance
Maintenance is due when a Polytrol treated surfaces shows signs of fading. Prepare and re-treat surfaces as directed above.
Clean Up
Clean any tools used with white spirit. Polytrol is non-flammable, however any rags, steel wool etc. soaked in Polytrol may spontaneously catch fire if improperly discarded. Rags, steel wool etc must be saturated with water after use or placed in a sealed, water-filled metal container, before disposing of them with household waste. Rags may be laid flat and air-dried before discarding.
Things to Remember
- Cover and protect everything you do not wish to treat.
- Apply between +5°C and +35°C.
- Do not apply in direct sunlight or on to hot surfaces.
- Do not allow excess Polytrol to dry and create a film on the surface (always remove excess product).
- Do not use Polytrol on white surfaces.

Absolutely fantastic stuff. We used it on a dark coloured polymer shower tray that had been discoloured, due to a clean with a harsh cleaner. After one application the colour was back to good-as-new. And so easy to use. Really impressed!

After a couple of failed attempts (using the wrong products) to restore the colour of our Garador garage door it ended up looking worse … then thanks to a Google search and some very helpful reviews I came across Polytrol.
It was a joy to apply with a 1″ paint brush and the job was done in under 90 minutes.
Although it’s very early days I’m really pleased with the end result and as there was a small amount that I didn’t want to put back in the tin I used it up on a very faded plastic downspout – 100% improvement to that too.
I have “before and after” photos but seem unable upload them. Hopefully they can be added later?

Hi there Colin,
We are sorry to hear that you didn’t get the desired results using Polytrol. This can sometimes occur due to a few reasons:
– The surface wasn’t properly cleaned before application of Polytrol
– The surface wasn’t completely dry before application of Polytrol
– There was another coating or contaminant on the surface that prevented the Polytrol from fully saturating
– The excess Polytrol was removed too early
Also, surfaces that are in a difficult environment such as by the sea and in direct sunlight, can fade quicker than surfaces not exposed to these harsh elements.
I hope this was helpful – Please feel free to contact us should you require any help or advice.
All the best,
Thea Owatrol Team

Worth every penny. I’m on my second can. The best product for use on plastics, I have treated my black pvc front door. The finish has stayed as glossy as the day I brushed it on. No cracking or dullness. I use it on my car pvc bumpers. They look so smart almost like new. I am particularly fussy about products I buy but Polytrol does everything it promises

Great finish. Just wash the surface clean and paint or rub it on with a cloth. I used a small brush for my composite door. Easy to do. It must be as I’m 73 and did it myself. You can too if your steady in your feet. If your young and fit even more easy. 🙂
