General directions
Always work in areas that can be completed 10-20 minutes to ensure an even appearance. If the surface absorbs the Polytrol unevenly (i.e. some matt and some shiny patches) move any surplus oil from shiny areas to matt areas. Always wipe away excess Polytrol with a lint-free cloth before it becomes tacky. For a shinier finish, buff the surface with a lint-free polishing cloth.
When using the Polytrol 250ml spray can, simply spray on liberally, wipe off the excess and leave to dry.
Applying Polytrol to plastic, gelcoat, tiles, painted surfaces etc.
Apply Polytrol liberally and evenly with a brush or cloth. Allow it to work for 10-20 minutes. Wipe off the excess with a clean lint-free cloth. Leave it to dry.
Applying Polytrol to stone, brick, etc.
Apply Polytrol liberally and evenly with a brush or cloth and leave it to work for 10-20 minutes. Brush out or wipe off the excess Polytrol with a clean lint-free cloth. Leave it to dry.
Applying Polytrol to metal
Apply Polytrol using a fine wire wool (000 grade) soaked in Polytrol and allow it to work for 10-20 minutes. Wipe off the excess Polytrol with a clean lint-free cloth. Leave to dry.
Note: Excess Polytrol must be wiped away. It is not a surface coating and as such, its place is in the surface, not on top.

I’ve used Owatrol paint conditioner on a narrowboat and expected great things from the colour restorer. First off the tag holding the paint expanding spout broke off and needed pliers to pull up and subsequent sticking a hole into it in order to use the product. As for the product itself was easy to apply but looks as though it was painted. I thought the product would be absorbent. It all looked is OK but I’m not convinced yet. Let’s get some weather on it for a final judgment.
Sort out the pull out funnel would help.

Hi there Geoff,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback of Polytrol.
It is most unfortunate that the pull up spout broke for you – after 9 years this is honestly my first time of hearing this happen, so apologies you had that experience.
We’re pleased to hear that you found Polytrol easy to apply. We were interested to read your comment regarding the “painted” appearance, as this is not typically the finish that Polytrol is designed to produce.
Unlike paints, varnishes or other surface coatings, Polytrol works by penetrating into the material to restore colour from within, rather than forming a film on the surface. When applied correctly, the finish should look natural rather than coated.
A ‘painted’ or surface-coated appearance can sometimes occur if there are contaminants, previous treatments, or residues on the substrate that prevent the product from being able to penetrate fully. It can also happen if any excess product is not wiped away after the recommended working time, as Polytrol should not be left to dry on the surface.
For best results, the surface should be thoroughly cleaned (as well as dried) and free from dirt, grease, oils, waxes, sealers and any previous coatings before application. After allowing the product to work for approximately 10–20 minutes (maximum), any and all excess should be removed using a clean, lint-free cloth.
If you would like to discuss your application in more detail, we’d be very happy to help and review the preparation and application process with you, to ensure you’re getting the best possible result from the product.

Thank you again for your feedback.

The product was easy to use and the door looks good but I was disappointed that it did not restore the colour to the edges surrounding the glass which have faded.

Product did exactly what was promised. Coverage was slightly more than the tin promised and I am really impressed with the finish. Our composite front door is restored back to the shiny black surface that it was from 10yrs ago.
My only negative is that it was delivered using DHL, which meant that the promised delivery day was pushed back 24hrs with no notice. With where we live, Royal Mail tracked is far more reliable.

Tried a small sample tin of polytrol with a view to trying it on my vinyl sided static caravan .
Used it on our composite front door at home which had faded quite badly with being a dark colour, only used a small amount but it a significant improvement.
Tried it my faded vinyl caravan after firstly rigorously cleaning it with a white vinegar and water solution to remove any oxidation , the colour difference was quite a surprise from faded white back to cream . Still early days as regards longevity but looking good.

Faded door to shiny door, very good. Was a bit unsure how much to wipe off as the instructions were a bit unclear, but looked good when done.

Fantastic product which has restored my racing green faded composite front door to an amazing extent. Looks like new. Smallest tin was more than enough and what’s left will do for at least two other neighbour’s doors. Easy to use.
Only issue I had was that no instructions on tin as to how to clean brushes. Had to go onto website and scrutinise tech spec. Just as well I did because I had assumed soapy water because it’s described as an oil, but turns out brushes need to be cleaned in white spirit as it’s actually a solvent based product. Hence 4 stars (inadequate labelling) otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

The reason I have only given 4* rating is because the delivery speed was extra fast.
The tin was wrapped with bubble wrap but unfortunately was damaged / bashed, (I presume in transit), see photos.
I have not used this product yet as it is intended to replenish Brown plastic gutters when I move house in the next few weeks.
Can you advise what to do next.

I purchased this product about 3 months ago and tried it out during the lockdown period. I applied it to the grey upvc surrounds to my windows, which are 4 years old and have suffered quite badly from the intense sunlight and heat that I get on both my balcony in the morning and in my backyard in the afternoon. I found that the product was about 90% successful in restoring the colour – perhaps the surrounds were a little too in far gone in patches to be any better. The material itself was easy enough to apply and the finish is really good and lasting. So I would recommend it notwithstanding the caveat above.

Bought sample pot to hopefully bring milky faded black grp door back to shine.
The product has given the shine back to the door from a distance looks new again… but up close, I can still see the faded milky like appearance through the shine but that’s me being picky.
Definitely try this on your door
