Application of Polytrol Colour Restorer

General directions

Always work in areas that can be completed 10-20 minutes to ensure an even appearance. If the surface absorbs the Polytrol unevenly (i.e. some matt and some shiny patches) move any surplus oil from shiny areas to matt areas. Always wipe away excess Polytrol with a lint-free cloth before it becomes tacky. For a shinier finish, buff the surface with a lint-free polishing cloth.

When using the Polytrol 250ml spray can, simply spray on liberally, wipe off the excess and leave to dry.

Applying Polytrol to plastic, gelcoat, tiles, painted surfaces etc.

Apply Polytrol liberally and evenly with a brush or cloth. Allow it to work for 10-20 minutes. Wipe off the excess with a clean lint-free cloth. Leave it to dry.

Applying Polytrol to stone, brick, etc.

Apply Polytrol liberally and evenly with a brush or cloth and leave it to work for 10-20 minutes. Brush out or wipe off the excess Polytrol with a clean lint-free cloth. Leave it to dry.

Applying Polytrol to metal

Apply Polytrol using a fine wire wool (000 grade) soaked in Polytrol and allow it to work for 10-20 minutes. Wipe off the excess Polytrol with a clean lint-free cloth. Leave to dry.

Note: Excess Polytrol must be wiped away. It is not a surface coating and as such, its place is in the surface, not on top.

Maintenance

Maintenance is due when a Polytrol treated surfaces shows signs of fading. Prepare and re-treat surfaces as directed above.

Clean Up

Clean any tools used with white spirit. Polytrol is non-flammable, however any rags, steel wool etc. soaked in Polytrol may spontaneously catch fire if improperly discarded. Rags, steel wool etc must be saturated with water after use or placed in a sealed, water-filled metal container, before disposing of them with household waste. Rags may be laid flat and air-dried before discarding.

Things to Remember

  • Cover and protect everything you do not wish to treat.
  • Apply between +5°C and +35°C.
  • Do not apply in direct sunlight or on to hot surfaces.
  • Do not allow excess Polytrol to dry and create a film on the surface (always remove excess product).
  • Do not use Polytrol on white surfaces.

    Seems excellent.
My package went to somebody else thanks to DHL but Owotrol just sorted out a replacement ASAP.
Definitely restores black plastic to black, byt be careful as too much is the last thing you want unless you want sticky plastics

      Hi there Gordon,

Thank you for your positive review of Pura-Trol & Poyltrol – we’re happy to hear they worked out well for you.

Thank you for also highlighting how important the removal of all excess Polytrol is. This is because it works by saturating deep into the surface to re-wet dried out pigments and as such, is not designed to be a surface coating. Any surplus oil left on the surface will eventually become sticky or tacky and will require a stripping solution to remove.

Thanks again Gordon and have a great day ahead.

      All the best,
      The Owatrol Team

This little kit did an amazing job! Have a black stone resin shower tray that had turned patches and grey with hard water marks and after I used a bathroom cleaner on it. Cleaned and treated with this kit and it’s better than it was when new somehow. Very happy. Can’t wait to use the spare on the ‘black’ plastic on my vehicles.

I have used this product to renovate my wood look fibreglass garage door that is in sun most of day so does tend to get dusty an look a little rough in comparison to when I purchased it 14 years ago…
I coated the outside areas first to see what the results was?
Unbelievable product my garage door looks as new now as when I purchased it with very little effort just a little sweat..
I was so impressed I continued with three oak grained Upvc doors same age …
The difference is amazing and the best £20 I’ve ever spent…on diy…..
Some time after I tried it on my curved coping edges around my front garden an drive…
Again the difference was clear to see and the solid bricks now look like new with a great sheen to them. I’m now looking around my home and my brothers home to improve on everything I can see….
Thanks for a product that does what it says on the tin……Paul…..

I have a Mercedes car fitted with anodised aluminium trims. I rather foolishly washed the car with cheap snow foam which has etched into the anodising leaving a patchy dull finish. Tried this on a recommendation, starting with a thin coat, and the difference is clear to see. It needs a thicker coat, or a series of thinner coats, but the improvement is clear to see and is better than the alternatives of replacing (hugely expensive) or vinyl wrapping. So far, very pleased with results. Not a cheap product, but don’t mind paying for something that actually works

Polytrol is a great product. 2nd time I’ve bought it. This time round purchased the small 125 ml tin which was plenty to restore colour of composite front door. Highly recommended.

Used on a composite front door that was badly faded after around 15 years. Easy to apply; 125 mL tin was easily more than enough – probably good for another two coats if (or when) needed. Result brilliant as of yesterday. Slightly surprised that it came up glossy rather than semi-matt but maybe it will settle when fully dry. Either way the door looks infinitely better, in fact as new. I was going to withhold one star until i find out how long it lasts but that seemed churlish!

      Hi there Steve,

We’re sorry to hear you had a poor experience with Polytrol.

If the surface was properly prepared, cleaned and dry before application, it is possible that the pigments are so damaged that they are just too far gone to be restored. As such, no amount of Polytrol (or any other colour restoring product) will be able to bring them back. It is fairly rare but unfortunately does happen on occassion.

For surfaces such as these, we always suggest purchasing a small 125ml pot to test it out first.

Hopefully you can put the Polytrol to use on another surface that isn’t quite as damaged.

      All the best,
      The Owatrol Team
