Today, we are proud to announce our full support for a landmark initiative that protects our environment – PaintCare UK.
What is PaintCare UK?
Launched by the British Coatings Federation (BCF), PaintCare UK is a major, industry-led pilot strategy designed to solve a long-standing challenge: leftover paint.
According to Paint 360, around 55 million litres of paint is sent to the landfill, or incinerated, in the UK every year. PaintCare aims to change that.
Starting in March 2026, a voluntary, industry funded initiative is being rolled out in the West Midlands. This initiative makes it easier than ever for both homeowners and tradespeople to return leftover paint, as well as empty packaging, to participating retailers.
Why Owatrol is Getting Behind the Initiative
Sustainability is at the core of the Owatrol philosophy. From our OECD 301 F tested biodegradable products, such as Net-Trol, Prepdeck, Aquadecks and Dilunett wood cleaners and strippers, to our high performance water-based finishes, we are constantly innovating to reduce our environmental footprint.
By supporting PaintCare, Owatrol is joining forces with leading UK manufacturers and retailers to unlock paint reuse and recycling at scale. This proactive, collaborative action is essential to meet the growing public expectations around sustainability and circularity.
Calling for Government Action
While the industry is taking the lead, the BCF is also calling on the UK Government to provide the necessary legislative support to make this initiative a national success. For PaintCare to move beyond the pilot phase and become a permanent, nationwide fixture, we need a ‘level playing field’ where all producers contribute to the solution.
As a BCF member, Owatrol UK stands with BCF in urging policymakers to recognise the coatings industry’s commitment to a circular economy.
