A very relieved customer sent us this email after using our biodegradable colour restorer Net-Trol to rescue his new patio:
Just a note to say how delighted I was with Net-trol and the results were amazing. The rust stains came out completely! As you know I had tried umpteen different chemicals and solutions but only Net-trol worked.
It was a huge relief to my wife and I as we had just spent £6000.00 on the stone and having it laid. I only applied the grass treatment 2 days before the patio was to be sealed!!
Once again many thanks to you.
Kind Regards,
David
David initially contacted us after trying many other products in an attempt to remove rust stains from his sandstone paving caused by metal furniture left on the slabs whilst he treated his lawn with anti-fungicide. Having spent a lot of money on his new patio he was understandably anxious to find something that would remove the stains.
We suggested that he used Net-Trol which as well as restoring colour to weathered wood can also remove rust stains from stone and cement. It is perfect for use in the garden as it’s harmless to plants and shrubs and is quick and easy to use.
How to apply Net-Trol
First, wet the surface with clean water, then apply Net-Trol with a synthetic brush or long pile roller and agitate the surface with the brush.
Leave to stand for 10-20 minutes and then scrub with a stiff brush or use a pressure washer to remove.
Repeat the process for particularly tough stains.
As you can see, the patio looks great and David was able to look his wife in the eye again!

I had an Indian sandstone patio laid and unsightly iron? staining occurred bleeding out around some of the darker slabs. Will Netrol removed this as it looks quite deep and not just on the surface?. I am a painter and use owatrol regularly- wonderful product.
Hi Alan,
Net-Trol is perfect for removing rust stains from patio. We cannot guarantee that it will remove them completely, especially if the stain is not just on the surface but it should at the very least reduce it. Any further questions please get in touch and apologies that we are unable to give you a definitive answer.
Many thanks,
The Owatrol Team
Alan, Did this work as I have the same problem just having had indian sandstone laid last summer and it appears to have rust spots on certain slabs.?
Hi Adam,
Net-Trol is perfect for tackling rust stains on sandstone paving, just be sure to give it a good scrub. If the staining is particularly bad, a second application might be necessary.
Hope this helps,
The Owatrol Team
Hi, can netrol be used to remove rust stains on porcelain tiles?
Hi there Cy,
There are no known restrictions for using Net-trol on porcelain, but we always advise testing on a small area first before treating the whole area.
We have previously had a customer use Net-Trol on their porcelain tiles with great success which you can read about here: https://www.owatroldirect.co.uk/case-studies/case-study-rust-mark-removal-from-porcelain-tiles/
We have also had customers use Net-Trol to remove rust stains from sandstone as well as concrete tiles – also with great success.
Please feel free to give us a call on: 01582 592707 or email us directly at: sales@owatroluk.com if you have any further queries.
All the best,

Hi,
I have laid silver granite paving slabs and I used a mild acid solution to remove mortar and cement from the laying process. Sadly, many slabs have dried to reveal a rusted finish which I have established has been caused by the acid used (hydrochloric 5%). Now I tested an inconspicuous area first and given no staining occurred I proceeded to the rest of the patio area however it seems acid can affect some but not all slabs due to mining location etc.
I am looking for something that can reduce the staining as it’s incredibly unsightly.
Thanks
Russ
Hi Russ,
Many customers have had great success with Net-Trol for removing rust stains from paving slabs (as in this case study) however we cannot guarantee that it will definitely be effective as it isn’t the primary use of the product and it will depend on the level of staining and the surface you’re trying to remove it from.
Thanks,
The Owatrol Team
Good morning
I have used a hydrochloric acid based mortar cleaner on my sandstone slabs and now have unsightly orangey brown stains .Is this this a rusting effect and will Net Trol clear the problem?
If so where can I purchase the product?
Many thanks
Hi Tony,
Apologies for the delay in response, your message got caught up in our spam filter! Many customers have had success with Net-Trol for removing rust stains (which it does sound like you have on your slabs) but we cannot guarantee results as it isn’t what the product was designed for. We would recommend purchasing a sample pot of Net-Trol and trying it out on a small area before purchasing for the whole job.
Hope to have been of help,
The Owatrol Team
Hi have just found your website after searching for a product to get rust stains out of my Indian Stone Patio. Net -Trol looks like the magic product I need. Please could you tell me where I could purchase this from. My location is Cheshire WA6 0PW.
Hi there,
You can use our store locator to find your nearest stockist. We would recommend calling them first to check specific stock levels of Net-Trol. Alternatively you can order Net-Trol online from us with next day delivery.
Many thanks,

Hi can you tell me if your product is safe to use with pet cats around ?
Hi Alison,
I have passed your enquiry onto our technical team for clarification and will have a response for you as soon as possible.
Thanks,
The Owatrol Team
Hi Alison,
I can confirm that Net-Trol is safe for people with pets to use as it is washed away with copious amounts of water during the process. We would obviously recommend keeping the cats away during the application process though.
Many thanks,
The Owatrol Team
Hi,
I have orange/brown stains on my newly laid Indian Sandstone. I think it may have been caused by an acid based cleaner used by the contractor. I have used Oxalic acid to remove the staining and it has actually worked only for the stains to reappear again following prolonged bouts of rain.
Can you tell me whether Net-trol is simply an Oxalic Acid solution or does it have any additional ingredients which might remove the staining more permanently?
Hi Rajan,
I have sent your enquiry to our technical team and will have a response for you as soon as possible.
Many thanks,
The Owatrol Team
Hi Rajan,
Net-Trol does contain oxalis acid but also other ingredients for cleaning purposes as well. Our recommendation would be to purchase a sample of Net-Trol and try it on a small area of the sandstone. It may also be worth purchasing a sample of Aquanett and doing the same as some customers have reported success with that product. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that either product will be successful as it is not their main purpose but many customers have had success.
If we can be of any further help then please let us know,
The Owatrol Team
Hello
I have a silver grey granite patio, what got stained with moss killer what I applied to the lawn. The staines look like rust staines. Do you think your product will help.
Hi there,
It is entirely possible that Net-Trol will help with your problem but unfortunately we can’t make any guarantees. We would recommend purchasing a sample pot and testing in a less visible area to begin with.
Many thanks,
The Owatrol Team
Hi I have laid a resin drive about 2 years ago and the customer has just rung up saying there are rust spots coming up as one of the stones in the resin has iron it will it remove the stain from the resin drive? Many thanks paul
Hi Paul,
Unfortunately whilst many customers do have success with Net-Trol in removing rust stains we cannot guarantee that it will be successful as it isn’t the main intended use of the product. We would definitely recommend purchasing a sample pot to test as it may well be that you also have success with it.
Many thanks,
The Owatrol Team
Hi, I have an Indian sandstone patio where I keep the dogs and they are fenced in by a galvanized fence. As the dogs have urinated on the fence it has left a white stain on the patio.Do you have anything to deal with this?
Hi Christopher,
Thank you for your query.
Whilst we cannot guarantee results, as it’s not what the product is primarily designed for, many customers have had success with using Net-Trol to remove a variety of stains from a variety of patio tiles, including sandstone and porcelain. We would recommend purchasing a sample pot of Net-Trol and trying it on a small area first.
I hope this is of help. Please don’t hesitate to contact us again should you have any further questions.
All the best,
The Owatrol Team
